Transformation and extension of an old school from 1930 to store the reserve artworks of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles in accordance with the preservation, archiving, and security constraints.

There was a paradox in the definition of requirements for the Artwork Warehouse, which combined the need to secure 5,000 works, keep them away from the light and out of public view, with that of a high visibility urban site. A broadly ribbed and perforated baffle, posed on the upper part of the front facade, provides optimal security for the warehouse, while creating urban resonance and maintaining the lighting in the interior traffic areas, as well as the design of the old facade through a transparent effect. The existing structure was not modified for the least constraining functions. Additionally, a new volume was created in the rear to house the program for voluminous or less precious works.
